Metallic & foil labels · Printed on metallic film

Metallic labels that shine like foil.

We print your design straight onto metallised film and lay white ink wherever you want flat colour. Anything you leave bare shines like foil: a fine border, a wordmark, or most of the label. Every job is printed in our own factory and delivered across the UK.

Minimum order £120 + VAT. We aim to get back to you the same working day.

How it works

The shine is in the stock.

Printing onto metallic film gives the look of foil across as much of the label as you want, without paying for foil.

The label stock is a metallised film. On our HP Indigo or Screen Truepress, both of which print white, we lay white ink first wherever the design needs solid colour, then print your artwork in full colour over the top. Where the white is left off, the metal shows through.

Because the shine comes from the stock, there’s no foil to register on top and no foil block to make. It suits designs where a lot of the label should shine, and a range of flavours can share one stock with only the artwork changing.

Spot UV or raised tactile varnish over the top adds a second texture. Mavrik’s cocktail cans pair a metallic stock with spot UV, so the gloss catches the light on top of the shine.

Ways to add metal

Pick the metallic that suits the job.

Metallic film is the route we recommend for most metallic designs. Where a design needs a brighter mirror finish on a logo or fine type, we add foil. The quote shows what each part costs.

METALLIC FILM

Shine across the whole label

Metallised film printed in full colour, with white ink wherever you want solid colour. Bare areas shine like foil, and you decide how much of the label that is.

RANGES

One stock, many flavours

A whole range can share one metallic film with only the artwork changing, so every flavour reorders on the same stock.

COLD FOIL

Inline on our Digicon lines

Our two Digicon Series 3 lines lay cold foil inline for a bright mirror finish on logos, borders and type. Where a plate is needed for it, it shows on your itemised quote.

DIGITAL FOIL

JetFX, straight from your file

Gold, silver and holographic foil laid digitally from your artwork, registered to the print underneath. Every label on the roll can carry different foil artwork.

HOLOGRAPHIC

A rainbow shift

Holographic stock with full-colour artwork printed over the top, so the shift shows through in the highlights. A favourite for limited editions and seasonal drops.

ARTWORK

Mark where it shines

Put the areas that should shine on their own spot-colour layer in your PDF. We pre-flight the file, and your digital proof marks exactly where the metal shows.

Dates and minimums

Need a rapid turnaround?

Get in touch and tell us your date. Metallic film prints on our digital presses with no plates or foil blocks, so once you’ve signed off the proof there’s nothing to wait for before we print. We schedule our own presses, so we can check your date and give you a straight answer.

Our minimum order is £120 + VAT per job, because every job is set up as its own production run. Peel & reveal labels have a higher minimum, quoted per job.

FAQ

Questions about metallic & foil labels.

Is there a minimum order for metallic labels?
The minimum order is £120 + VAT per job. Printing on metallic film on our digital presses needs no plates or foil blocks, so there’s no tooling charge on top. If your design uses cold foil and needs a plate, it shows on your quote.
What’s the difference between metallic film and foil?
Metallic film makes the label stock itself metallic. We print colour over it, with white ink wherever the metal should be hidden. Foil is a thin metal layer laid onto the label only where your artwork asks for it, and gives the brightest mirror shine. Metallic film suits designs where a lot of the label should shine; foil suits a logo, a border or fine type.
Can you add foil to a metallic film label?
Yes. Cold foil or digital foil can go on top for a brighter mirror finish on a logo or fine type, and spot UV or raised tactile varnish adds a texture you can feel.
How do I set up artwork for a metallic label?
Put the areas that should shine on their own spot-colour layer in your PDF, or tell us and we’ll set it up from your notes. We pre-flight the file, and your digital proof marks where the metal shows, for you to sign off before anything prints.
Can you foil small text?
Yes, down to 4pt type. We check fine detail at pre-flight and flag anything too small to foil cleanly.
How quickly can you print metallic labels?
Need a rapid turnaround? Get in touch and tell us your date. Metallic film prints digitally with no plates or foil blocks, so once you sign off the proof there’s nothing to wait for before we print.
